This database, begun by Martha Novak Clinkscale in 1987, formed the basis of her two books published by Oxford University Press in the 1990s: Makers of the Piano 1700–1820 and Makers of the Piano 1820–1860.

Early Pianos Online continues Clinkscale’s work by offering visitors an opportunity to search interactively, submit corrections and updates, and enter new records.

The information presented in Early Pianos Online is available free of charge. When publishing data from this source, please follow these data use guidelines.
